I'm all for wishing upon a star! Really I am!
I love the Disneyeque vision of life that says, "When you wish upon a star....Makes no difference who you are..Anything your heart desires...Will come to you"
However... frankly, I'm tired of seeing too many good people with good dreams... basically not acting on them. Not living them. Not seeing their heart desire come true.
I hate seeing people stuck... even more NOT living into WHO they really are and doing WHAT they're gifted to do. So sad that the majority end up feeling frustrated to even consider their own dream. Maybe even feels too painful!
Yet, many now think "dreams are kind of naive" and don't have much place in business, life, and certainly in their understanding of the "real world."
So, why? What's missing for the absolute majority of people.... ?
Here are four tangible reasons why most dreams can't come true.. And therefore don't come true.
Many fail to have a very clear understanding of their own dream. It's vague. Kind of like, "Be happy." "Be rich." "Be a nice person."
Dreams that come true are MUCH clearer than that. They're written and owned. The more specific the better.. not vague.
On May 25, 1961 John F. Kennedy boldly proclaimed his dream "To put a man on the moon and return him safely to Earth before the end of the 1960s." That's pretty clear!!
The clearer and shorter the better! Best you can say it in one single sentence. The fewer the words the better.
"Know thyself" is more than a philosophical maxim. It can practically help us understand what we're really good at and know how to effectively use what have to offer in our arsenal to pull off the dream....especially big dreams!
You can't dream to be a basketball player when you're short, slow and can't hit a jumpshot! But, if you're tall, fast, and an ace shooter....
Gifts that can help pull off dreams include...
Writing.
Speaking
Organizing
Recruiting
Researching
Connecting people
Inventing
Innovating
Funding (money can help!)
And many... many others.
Yes, often the biggest thing standing in the way between gifted people with a dream... a plan.
Larry Winget was on to something when he said, "Dreams don't come true. Plans come true!"
Truly, there's something to overplanning when it comes to launching... but creating a path to maximize our days and moves us forward from "what if" to "done" makes a HUGE difference.
Want to write a book? What's your plan?
Want to leave the job you hate? What's your plan?
Want to create a business? What's your plan?
Want to grow your business? What's your plan?
Finally, if you're not "all in" or at least "in in a big way," how can the dream turn into reality?
