Scared? Or Sane?
Sometimes we need to consider... sometimes we're forced to consider!
One of my favorite movie scenes ever takes place in Groundhog Day when Bill Murray (Phil) gets in the front seat of a car with two inebriated locals, Gus and Ralph.
Phil: What if there were no tomorrow?
Gus: No tomorrow? That would mean there would be no consequences, there would be no hangovers. We could do whatever we wanted!
Phil: [thinking] That's true. We could do...whatever we wanted.
Phil: It's the same things your whole life. "Clean up your room!", "Stand up straight!", "Pick up your feet!", "Take it like a man!", "Be nice to your sister!", "Don't mix beer and wine, ever!". Oh yeah — "Don't drive on the railroad tracks!"
Gus: Eh, Phil... That's one I happen to agree with.
Which way of life will lead to life? What is acting in fear? And which is acting in faith?
Obey the rules? Or
Rules were meant to be broken.
Be courageous and take a risk. Or
Discretion is the better part of valor.
You only live once. Or
So - here's my belief. Having worked very closely with hundreds of clients and being involved in the stories of their lives, their vocations and their money....
Often fear screams SO loudly that faith doesn't get a word in edgewise.
And at times - it's just plain confusing!
So here are some questions to ask - IF you have a choice to make NOW... or to save for when you come to your own railroad tracks.
Shall I do it? Or NOT do it? Say yes? Or Say NO.
6. What does God want me to do? Do it? Or not do it?
Give it a shot. Run your decision by these questions and see what emerges.
