People have asked me, "When do you find the time to blog?" Hear the real question: "Is blogging a waste of your time?" Or "Do blogs really change anyone's life?
I think of the question in a similar way to how CS Lewis answered the question to "Why do you still pray?" in the movie Shadowlands. Hear the real question: Is prayer a waste of your time? Does prayer cause God to change His mind? Lewis's answer: "It's not so much that prayer changes God. It's that prayer changes me." Hmmmm... Smart guy!
Blogging can do the same. Blogging can change us. It's a modern opportunity to do something that benefits your own soul.
SIX THINGS BLOGGING CAN DO FOR US... Blogging....
can cause us to ask "So what am I learning about these days?" (themes, messages, reminders...)
can create structure in what seems fuzzy in our lives.
can make us remember what we may have forgotten.
can connect us in real ways to others thinking about, struggling with, learning some of the same things. (Blogging can actually build bridges of community!)
can give us the satisfaction that what we're blogging about actually served someone else! Go figure!
can force us to apply our own blog messages, less we be hypocrites and not do what we're saying publically.
So, even if you never read this, I still benefitted by recalling, that I get to blog for my own soul. Wouldn't have been able to say that 20 years ago!
Blog on!
