Build on Your Strengths in 2015

BestYearYetOf course, it's always inspiring to see others succeed in some area of endeavor.  THEN they stand up and with all sincerity tell us, "You can do it too!  I did it!"

Can we?  Really?

Of course we can learn from them and be inspired that growth, change and breakthroughs can happen for us earthlings!

However, though well-meaning, this assumes

3. I have the support in place like you do.

I'm sure there are many reasons for the abysmal success rates of New Years Resolutions and annual goal - setting.  Some statistics
  • 46% of Americans make them

  • 25% don't even make it past the first week!

  • 8% are successful in achieving their resolutions!

This is total conjecture... but I think I'm still right: I believe that very few resolutions are made with a knowledge based on past accomplishments, core values, passions and personal strengths.

Instead, they're created by feelings of failure.

  • I hate working out.... so I will set a goal to work out every day!

  • I stink at sales.... so I will set a goal to sell double next year!

  • I hate organizing.... so I will set a goal to keep my life every day.

  • I hate my job... so I will work harder at it in 2015 and hope I succeed.

OK, I get that there are tough things in life we just need to suck up and do... however, when we build on interests, underdeveloped abilities  THEN find outside ways to compensate for our non-strengths, the potential of success goes up.  Way up!

So, what might that look like?

It looks like understanding you.... what motivates you... how you're gifted.... what really matters to you instead of what "should matter."

One of Daniel Pink's greatest findings is that not everyone gets motivated in the same way by the same things.  Maybe, just maybe, knowing what motivates you can make the difference between succeeding in matters or giving up in the first week.
