The sign on the Mountain of Timidity reads: "Who me?" The subscript: "I can't do that..."
Do you read those signs? Hear those voices in your head aimed at quenching a thousand dreams? Listen to them and they put us in the place of a pitiful child who's not fully able to do grownup things or solve grownup problems.
To climb this mountain means being willing to politley hear the message, but contradict the voices by simply saying, "No thanks. I'm not afraid of that mountain. Appreciate your warning." It means stepping over the rocks that once tripped us in past attempts and remembering where they are on tomorrow's climb. It's claiming ground that God made us to take... Us at your very best. Being who we really are.
Today, you will face people who don't "get you," those who think small, those who shrink back and invite you to do what they do. Don't give in to them. Today, you will face your fears of failure and that insidious desire to quit but move forward nonetheless. This time you will ignore the "quit now" whisper and do what must be done anyway.
Climb that mountain today and tomorrow's climb will be that much easier. The time to listen to the timid voice is over. You're done with that. Climb on!
