Everyone these days is calling for “calm” given the coronavirus threat, even as markets fall severely, cases rise all around us and our Italian vacation gets put on hold.
Headlines just now read, “World Markets Tumble" and “All of Italy goes on Lockdown” and “Illinois Declares Disaster Proclamation Over Coronavirus Outbreak.”
Will we be headed into economic recession and our own lockdown soon?Hmmmm... The Dow just posted its biggest loss since 2008.
Into that there’s the are voices from "the hill" (Washington) proclaiming, “This is not a time for fear."
And that’s absolutely right! This is not a time for fear! But it is a time for reality, and it is a time for leaders to lead out of a cared for and fear-free soul.
But, it's one thing to say “Don’t fear” – And there’s another thing to practice it and to do the things and create the habits right now to be prepared for whatever – and still totally beat peace today.
Who of us ever “Just calms down” when someone announces, “Just calm down!” Ahhhh…. Noooo.
But, do you agree that leaders need to lead themselves first – then be able to show up with calm, wisdom and a clear head, soul and mind?
And a good coach or leader does expect to encounter threats.
We do, however, equip OURSELVES first to walk in peace, purpose and perspective even when everyone around us kind of goes nuts.
So, here's some therefore's... 6 practical things you can do today to coach yourself in this age of coronavirus. See it as a Corona-coaching-kit.
Walking is “the best exercise in the world” according to the article Mindy sent me this morning. But, it’s also often the best way to cleanse our soul and gain perspective.
See the sky. Feel the breeze. Breathe. Step. Breathe. Step. Be reminded that the sky is still beautiful. The birds still sing.
And don’t listen to anything or check your phone. Just enjoy the quiet. Ahhhhh…
It’s incredible how much is awesome and good even in the challenge. Remind yourself.
I literally start each day by listing at least 5 things I appreciate to start my day. I NEVER miss a day. For good reasons! Its life giving and transforms this born to be anxious Jersey guy before I get going too far.
Let it soak in. Let it fill every part of your mind, body and soul. Read each sentence. Then stop. Read it again. This is kind of God speaking say, "Trust me on this."

will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]

I’ve loved watching Colorado’s own @southwest_hooey (Alex Grojean) on Instagram. He’s in total lockdown quarantine in Yinchuan, China and he’s hilarious! (although a bit off color at time : )

Lately he’s been broadcasting on interesting snacks only found in China. Yes, he's bored!
Last night, a friend brought over Corona beer to a meeting at our house. : )
So, if we do head into quarantine – I say we get creative and find fun ways to hang out and see this as an adventure.
