Discover Your Keystone Habit for 2015

dominosOf course, we'd all like to believe we can do it all in any one month, year, lifetime....

And one of the biggest mistakes I've made and watched others make in setting goals and desires for a new year is to set TOO many goals or resolutions.

Like losing 20 pounds... doubling my income... doing a weekly date night... writing a book... starting a new company... running a marathon....

Yep.  All good things... but can you really do all of them this year?

OK, so the whole idea of a Keystone habit is something that creates a chain reaction and causes other things in your life and your other habits to come together.  It's  Another analogy: the domino effect: the first domino that goes and causes all the others to fall into place.

How do you find or discover a keystone habit?  Look for...

1. The habit that gives you a sense of one small victory

Its a routine that can allow you to have at least one key "win" or victory in your day.  Trust me, even just one makes a difference!  Then, you can build on that!

2. The habit that encourages you or gives you energy

You think to yourself: "Hey, if I did that one, I can gain wins in other areas!"

3. The habit that becomes the foundation for growing other habits

They're like good soil and other good things can happen too!  Even if it's as simple as doing pushups, pullups or having a date night.

So: Key questions to discover your keystone habit 2015:

What habit , if practiced EVERY DAY, will cause your other habits to come into place?

On your best days... what do you do that seems to make every other thing easier, better or unnecessary?

It could be a physical habit.  For example, in 2014, I did 20 sit-ups and 20 push-ups each day (Just increased to 30/30 for 2015)

  • It could be a financial habit: Do not use credit cards.  Or pay off debt each month.

  • Or an earning habit or goal: Gain 1 new client each week.  Raise my rates by $200.

  • A spiritual habit: Start each day with 20 minutes of prayer.

  • An educational habit: Listen to one podcast each day while commuting.

  • A relational habit: Spend 30 minutes with my spouse walking each day.

Incredibly, just finding your win in JUST ONE KEY AREA can make everything else start to come alive and gain momentum.

So, what ONE HABIT can be your lynchpin for everything else?
