He agreed.
Here’s what he wrote:
“I have been in this searching mode for so long that I struggle with the idea that everyone can find work that they love to do and make a significant living at it. I wonder often if work is destined to be difficult for some, as a result of original sin. I wonder if I need to focus more on contentment in my circumstances, rather than a pursuit of fulfillment and meaning in my work.”
I know many of us have spent vast amounts of time, including the middle of the night (don’t do that!) wrestling with every angle of what you’ve articulated.
becomes “Can I even pay my bills and not go into more debt?” “Can I not put more pressure on my marriage or short my children from their needs?”
(God, what are you doing again??)
Argh….. I need to start over.
According to the Bible, this has yet to be fully reversed or eliminated.
(Genesis 3:17-19, (NIV))
The question we have to ask,
If childbearing was affected by the fall (“greatly increase pains in childbearing”) and marriage was affected by the fall would we find it acceptable to keep women from using medication to ease pain or marriages to become male dominated fiefdoms? Of course not. Instead, God invites us to
Collaborate with Him to bring healing where there’s pain
Work that drains, frustrates, belittles and makes you feel like a cog in a wheel instead of making a meaningful contribution are not God.. just the opposite.
Like the pain we feel when we’re wounded, lack of those things in our work should alert us that’s something’s wrong.
(Ezekiel 36:26)
Yikes!
Would we?
We intentionally equip more people to
Know what kinds of work you would love.
Know how to find such work
Know how to succeed at such work for the good of others.
I get that.
We live in a world where even the gifted don’t have perfect resources or abilities to market those gifts and find those who need what they do best in the world economy.
, what if we were to
But it’s not rocket science and there are plenty of examples of people who’ve changed what wasn’t working and now thrive because of the change.
If you aren’t going to move or market yourself for something new, experiencing contentment and refusing to allow fear to creep in may be the best choice you ever made.
And since your work is part of that, finding God’s path to loving His plan for you in this area of life may be the adventure of surprise and provision you’d never want to miss.
