Some ideas...
Instead of seeing them as a mass of faceless, passionless folks, we start to speak to what binds us together. What values do we share? What beliefs? What deep desires?
Lately, I've been on a journey to do just that. After months it finally hit me, who are the people I do help and want to help more? The aha: Help the people who want to 'make a living making a difference." They don't want to just volunteer on the side, they want their life to be about making a meaningful difference and want to even make their living doing just that if at all possible.
Can't tell you the freedom and the focus that gives me to help real people.... instead of "them."
Who is your tribe? Or as awesome expert social media podcaster Chalene Johnson calls your "lifers" (those you do life with and help)
This gets to better understanding "thou" and when all is said and done,
"What do you really need?'
What will help them grow?
What will help them succeed?
What will help them get unstuck when they're stuck?
Best case: Ask them? Do a survey. E-mail them. Take them to lunch! (and if I'm in your tribe, for a frozen yogurt with those little fruit squishy things piled on... ie. Yums!)
Then our social media becomes about generously offering those things as gifts, insights, connections, and training.
Of course there are others who may offer some similar things, or may some of the same things, but we DO have a unique vantage point and a set of experiences. Can we off that through
Posting what we've learned
Forwarding posts from others we learn from
Offering a word of encouragement in the daily struggle
Celebrating someone else's success or accomplishments
Forwarding their best stuff to give them a platform to our audience.
Giving some of our best tools, research and insights away with no cost and no expectation.
With God's help, we all become fully and freely ourselves, even on social media. Nothing fake, foolish or faux. Fully us offering our best gifts and passions.
Of course, they still love seeing our smiling face, our kids and our puppies too! Instagram proves that!!
But, there really is a new generation of generous "I-Thou" folks building transformational business out there. And they're doing it by loving, giving and caring.
May this "I-Thou" tribe grow and grow!
PS. ALWAYS love to hear your thoughts and am blessed when you "like" or share with others who need to be part of this tribe Who of us isn't bugged when social media becomes about self-centered showing off, bragging, selfish-selling and getting attention? The struggle of the inner seeds of good and evil played out in ways to attract attention every single nano-second. Selfies to the max!
