Me: I don't think I was wired up "happy go lucky" by nature, nurture or something else. I have, at least at times, related more to this guy. = >
I have to work at it intentionally.
And yes, becoming more positive and happier isn't an option for some of us. (Most of us??) Clearly, being positive and happy triggers endorphins, emotional intelligence, and productivity without sacrificing peace and perspective.
The Bible clearly teaches this. "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances." (I Thessalonians 5:16, 17)
Yup.
And I'm convinced that actively doing things tangibly, physically and actively that make all the difference. Habits of life.
So recently I read Jon Gordon's new short book: The Positive Dog: A Story About the Power of Positivity.
And at first, I'm thinking, this is cute and all ; BUT I know all this stuff! Yup.
1. Positive people live longer. Yup.
2. Positive work environments outperform negative work environments. Yup. 3. Positive, optimistic salespeople sell more than pessimistic salespeople. Yup. Makes sense.
4. Positive leaders are able to make better decisions under pressure. Yup. I get that.
Most of us actually DO know that when all is said and done.
'It's what we do when positivity and happiness isn't happening. Isn't growing. Isn't what we're living in. Then what??
So, reading Jon Gordon's book - I actually learned a NEW (to me at least) very specific and practical way to actually, actively and practically become more positive.
Here's the one that I've started to apply and think is worth spreading.
TAKE "THANK YOU WALKS" EVERY DAY.
Basically, instead of knowing (as you do and I do) be more grateful.... Once a day take a walk and find things to be grateful for.
Thank you for the sun today.
Thank you for warmth (God knows, we've needed it this year!)
Thank you for my family.
Thank you for my clients.
Thank you for my dogs. (I walk with them, so this is a natural. And they are alot of fun.
Thank you for my friends.
Thank you for that cool looking bird over there!
And as I look closer at the bird, I see that it's actually carrying a hitchhiking bird on it's back and I laugh out loud! Like he learned it watching the Space Shuttle on a 747 or something!
Have you ever seen this one of those? I mean, two of those?
Who knew?
And I realize how many other such scenes I've missed simply because I wasn't taking "Thank you walks" and how I so can relate to the bird on the back!
Try it! Take a "thank you walk" today. See what you see!
Join me in making it part of a daily routine for the rest of the month.
