I am convinced that the more clearly we define and can articulate our dreams, the better chance we have of actually turning the dream into reality. Since coaching and financial life planning involve asking clarifying questions, I am always inventing new questions to help someone get to the very heart of their vision or dream.
Here are ten dream-defining questions you may consider exploring yourself. Write them in a journal. Share them with a group and discuss. Don't overevaluate your answers... at least at first.
1. You win $100 million lump sum prize from the lottery.... What do you do? What don't you do?
2. You're able to choose 1o square miles of land any place in the world and do whatever on that land you want. Where is the land? What do you do on that land?
3. You are granted 3 wishes from a genie in a bottle. What are your three wishes? Why?
4. You are given the gift of one year to be free from all responsibilities and you can do anything you want? What do you do? Where? Why? With whom?
5. You are given a gift certificate to purchase any company or organization of your choice. Which one would you choose? Why?
6. If you are to sum up what you most want your life to be about in one word, what word do you choose? Why? What word is definitely NOT your word?
7. You get to partner with one other person in the world who will help you live out or accomplish your dream? Who do you choose? Why?
8. If you were to have the one major obstacle or snag to you living your dream instantly removed, what would be removed? How would you know it was gone?
9. What tends to bring tears to your eyes? Why? (If nothing, why is that? What might if you were to tear up?)
10. If you were to leave the world a better place, what would be better? How would you measure that?
