Sometimes the best thing you can do if you dream big is to "think small." That's right, just one small step, one thing completed with sanity and open hands instead of stress and clenched fists moves you out of neutral. One check off the "mile-long" to-do list now puts you in the less than a mile category.
Small is the new big!
I'd like to tell you this "think small" writing is for all of you "other people." Confession here: I'm the guy who shoots for the three pointer when a layup would win the game. I go for the touchdown when a field goal would be wise. I love the phrase, "Go big or go home!" I recently counseled my friend Jim to "go for it" and use his driver to make the green instead of what he intuitively knew; hit up, chip on and put in. The result: Jim's ball careened into the woods and he ruined his stellar golf round in one fell swoop with an eight on that hole. Sorry Jim!
Reaching for the stars is awesome. However, we must also recognize that a hand waving a couple feet above our heads isn't quite the stars. We may need to find a simpler and saner first step.
The good news: Small things done consistently over time add up to Big things. Rome wasn't build in a day. But, one Roman working with a hammer did create some awesome structures to further the project.
