I just came across a paragraph that articulated why unlocking people to discover and fully engage their callings and dreams has become my life's work and why I am believing will become the life work of many others. These words articulate why actively taking the steps to engage our own dream and inviting others to radically transform their life and change the world by engaging their own dream is not crazy, but very sane.
Steven Pressfield in his book The War of Art, (Pressfield is also the author of international bestsellers The Legend of Bagger Vance, Gates of Fire and Tides of War...) writes the following :
"How many of us have become drunks and drug addicts, developed tumors and neuroses, succumbed to painkillers, gossip, and compulsive cell-phone use, simply because we don't do that thing that our hearts, our inner genius, is calling us to do? Resistance defeats us."
(Let's talk more about "resistance later!" )
"If tomorrow morning, by some stroke of magic every dazed and benighted soul woke up with the power to take the first step toward pursuing his or her dreams, every shrink in the directory would be out of business. Prisons would stand empty. The alcohol and tobacco industries would collapse, along with the junk food, cosmetic surgery, and the infotainment business, not to mention pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and the medical profession from top to bottom. Domestic abuse would become extinct, as would addiction, obesity, migraine headaches, road rage, and dandruff."
Hmmm.. just one step toward pursuing our dream. No one else's dream. My dream. Your dream. And simply what he's saying is that our willingness to accept AND Do our dream can affect every other aspect of our life..... creating a ripple effect of amazing good.
OK, so this is great and visionary writing. Powerful imagery. But isn't it true that RESISTANCE to the life we've been called to live can kick our butts and keep us stuck in secondary, not the real us, lives ? And isn't that stuck feeling of settling for a secondary life what bums us out and keeps us from experiencing the deeper meaning of our life, from relating to others with confidence and abandon and even experiencing the love and power of God all around us?
Even if just a few people started to fully discover and engage their dream, they would become an unstoppable force for the good... and influence others to follow suit. Are you in?
